Jean-Louis is a psychiatrist who obtained his medical degree from the University of the Free State. His early experiences and passion for mental health in the public sector guided his decision to pursue a career in Psychiatry. After obtaining a Diploma in Mental Health from the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa in 2013, he commenced training as a registrar in Psychiatry at the University of Stellenbosch. His Master’s thesis was published in an open-access international journal.

Jean-Louis joined the Panorama Psychiatry and Memory team in 2017. Dr du Plooy is particularly interested in general adult and old age psychiatry, specifically in mood and anxiety disorders. He is married and embraces life fathering his 2 sons, 2 dogs and 2 cats.
