The Panorama Psychiatry & Memory Centre was started in 2009. We have 6 health care professionals on our team. Each of them a highly qualified and is passionate in helping our clients to improve and restore their quality of life.

Dr. Michael S Mason

Psychiatrist

He completed medicine in 1999 at the University of Stellenbosch and completed his specialty in 2005 at the University of Stellenbosch. He has an interest in Memory Disorders and general adult psychiatry, including mood and anxiety disorders. Dr. Paul Magni

Psychiatrist

He Qualified MBChB in 2000 at UFS (Free State) and FC Psych in 2007 from US (Stellenbosch). Practicing full time at the Panorama Psychiatry and Memory Centre since 2008. He has a special interest in older adult psychiatry, memory disorders, and all aspects of general adult psychiatry. Your content goes here.

Dr. Jean-Louis du Plooy

Psychiatrist

He obtained his medical degree from the University of the Free State. After obtaining a Diploma in Mental Health, he commenced training as a registrar in Psychiatry at the University of Stellenbosch. He is particularly interested in general adult and old age psychiatry, specifically in mood and anxiety disorders.

Leida Heymann

Clinical Psychologist

I am a Clinical Psychologist who offers assessment, diagnostic and therapeutic services. I offers short and long term therapy for individual adults as well as couples. I tend to work in a psychodynamic modality but can also use CBT and I am trained in EMDR – a specific form of therapy to help people process trauma.

General adult psychiatry

Psychiatry is a medical speciality that manages the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mental health conditions. A doctor who works in psychiatry is called a psychiatrist. General psychiatrists are medically qualified doctors who contribute to the management and treatment of adults with mental health problems.

Old age psychiatry

Old age psychiatry is a specialty which treats older people with psychiatric disorder and the special knowledge and skills needed to treat them. Common mental illnesses that are prevalent in the elderly include depression, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, anxiety, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

Clinical Psychology

A Clinical Psychologist offers assessment, diagnostic and therapeutic services. It can either be long or short term therapy for individual adults as well as couples. Providing a client with a safe and empathic space where we can work together to relieve distress and restore hope.

Psychodynamic modality

Psychodynamic therapy involves the interpretation of mental and emotional processes rather than focusing on behavior (Strupp, Butler, & Rosser, 1988). Psychodynamic therapists attempt to help clients find patterns in their emotions, thoughts, and beliefs in order to gain insight into their current self.

Occupational therapy

Occupational therapy (OT) is a branch of health care that helps people of all ages who have physical, sensory, or cognitive problems. OT can help them regain independence in all areas of their lives. Occupational therapists help with barriers that affect a person’s emotional, social, and physical needs.

Mood disorders

Mood Disorders cover a wide range of conditions that fall under the umbrella of mental health disorders. Common mood disorders (affective disorders) include all types of depression, bipolar disorder, seasonal affective disorder and others.

Anxiety disorders

Anxiety disorders are common and treatable with individually tailored therapy and medication. There are several anxiety disorders: Panic Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and Phobias.

Memory disorders are disorders of cognition, the ability to reason, remember, make decisions and communicate. Our health professionals have in-depth experience treating a wide variety of memory disorders, including Dementia, Delirium and Alzheimer’s disease.
